Pen Pals Are Forever

Forever Young Adult presents the FYA Pen Pal Club

Pen Pals Are Forever

I never had a pen pal growing up. And after reading two of the Ashbury-Brookfield books, which are both written in epistolary form between pen pals, this whole 'no pen pal' thing was giving me a big ol' sad. Lots of you all had great pen pal stories! I had none. And the worst part of it all? I am seriously so dope at writing letters. But I can change all of this! I can take life by the stamp and be in charge of my own destiny.

In the immortal words of Ashbury's english teacher Mr. Botherit:

"...it will be our stand against the tyranny of technology! By sending letters, we say no to e-mails! No to mobile technology and texting!! And yes to the Joy of the Envelope!"
Say no to technology? Well, NO WAY because I love technology, it's my favorite. But that doesn't mean we can't still say yes to the joy of the envelope! That said, I present to you:

The Forever Young Adult (TM) Official Pen Pal Club

"whoever has stationary of this level of awesomeness gets to be my pen pal, plsthx"

That's right, a pen pal club! In which any of the FYA writers, readers and commenters can sign up to receive their very own pen pal. The premise is simple:

Rule 1: Sign up using the form provided here. (currently closed)

Please fill this out as completely as you can. And double check your mailing address and email! We will not be sharing your information with anyone (except your name/address which we will obviously have to give to your new pen pal via email.)

Rule 2: You must write ONE letter to your pen pal

It would be pretty sad for to sign up for this and not get a single letter. So I'm requiring that everyone send their pen pal (at minimum) one letter. It's up to you whether you want to continue your pen pal relationship beyond that. No pressure! But I hope many of you choose to do so!

Rule 3: You must write your letter within ONE week of receiving your pen pal's address

That's it! It is open to everyone (including all countries!) I will leave this form open for one week to make sure everyone who wants to has the chance to sign up. Within a couple days after that, you will receive an email from me telling you the name and address of your new pen pal. I will match you up with someone who I think will be a great fit. (I will be like the eHarmony of pen pals! Except everyone is welcome!) Write about anything in the world you want to. You take it from there!
