Yes yes y'all! It's Monday! Let me get some action from the back section!
Ok, obviously I'm writing this post on Sunday night, when the harsh reality of Monday morning has yet to crush my soul (and the wine buzz I'm currently nursing). But hopefully I can transplant some of my weekend enthusiasm into this entry, so when I re-read it tomorrow, I'll remember that there's always hope amidst the darkness, and that hope is called Next Weekend.
In the meantime, let's get judgey with this week's Cover Story, in which we make up a synopsis of a book based solely on the information we can gather from its cover. Today, we're inventing the plot of Such A Rush by Jennifer Echols.
It's the year 2090, and Brittax appears to be an ordinary girl. Like other teenagers, she wears the drab, shapeless clothes prescribed by the government and makes sure her hair abides by the law in a smooth, simple braid. But in a hidden compartment in her bedroom floor, Brittax hides a valuable secret: A 2010 Toni & Guy Style Book. During the day, her heart is weighed down by the cruel uniformity of society, but at night, her spirits soar the minute she loosens her rubber band. With every inch she teases and each strand she gels, Angela engages in her own private rebellion. But one day, after her best friend Lurrez is taken away by the Federal Hair Authority on suspicion of highlights, Brittax decides enough is enough. Armed with a contraband can of Aquanet and a hairdryer she made from spare parts of a jet turbine, she declares her own war on the government. Her hair styles are like nothing the world has ever seen, and as the government struggles to classify her styling actions (Is it an owl sleeping on her head? A bike helmet?), she inspires a revolution amidst the people. But will she emerge victorious with mousse for all, or will she be captured by the SHWAT (Special Hair Weapons and Tatics) team to suffer the ultimate punishment: A PERM?!!!
