Procrastination Pro-Tips: BAMF Girl’s Club, Raspberry Cordial and More

Happy Friday everyone!  Are you like, SO excited!?  You should be!  It’s finally Olympics time and around here we LOVE the Olympics!  The Opening Ceremony is about to begin!  Or maybe it’s already started!?  I don’t know!  Time zones are complicated.  Either way, I can’t wait to hear what kind of crazy shit goes down in the Opening Ceremony.  Will there REALLY be 30 Mary Poppins...es fighting a 40 foot tall Voldemort like the internet keeps telling me??  Will the Closing Ceremony really have the Spice Girls performing?  Only time will tell what kind of bat shittery we are in for!  In the meantime, if you’re a sad sack American just starting your work day, here are some links to distract yourself until we can go home and watch the Opening Ceremonies when it finally airs on our side of the pond.

Do you know what you should do this weekend?  Learn how to make raspberry cordial!  My friend recently went to PEI and she bought me a bottle of raspberry cordial with Anne’s face on it.  Some people are just great gift givers.

Speaking of gifts, there is finally a perfume to give to the book lover if your life!  Except don’t.  Because I’m sure it smells terrible, because ALL perfumes smell terrible.  (Note: don’t fight me on that gross generalization until you’ve had a nose transplant with me.  I’m blind as a bat and can’t hear worth shit so my sense of smell apparently feels the need to OVERCOMPENSATE.  On the one hand, I’m the only one who was able to immediately tell that my stove was leaking gas a few years back.  On the other hand...I smell ALL THE SMELLS and most smells are not nice.)

The lovely April shared with us this video and song tribute to Chapter 2 of every Baby-sitters Club book.

Gratuitous photos of the lovely ladies from Downton Abbey...just because!  Be careful, Edith is a little NSFW, rawr.

Erin’s not the only person on the internet who likes to talk about V.C. Andrews (though, she’s still my favorite!)

The New Yorker has an interesting piece on Fairy Tales and violence.  (Though, our own Alix has been looking at fairy tale violence in her own way.  She’s basically like a YA blog Angela Carter, heh.)

Whether you love or hate The Mortal Instruments series, you’ve got to admire author Cassandra Clare for standing up against the rampant whitewashing in Hollywood.

This video of the "BAMF Girl’s Club" is pretty funny, but my MVP award definitely has to go to the lady playing Bella.  Pitch perfect.

Hey, remember that time NPR asked everyone to name their top 5 YA novels of all time?  We do.  Well, they are back with the next round of voting.  So get your votes in.  You can pick 10 this time.  CHOOSE WISELY.  And in case you’re wondering why some books are mysteriously missing, NPR attempts to explain their rationale.  Because somehow Lord of the Rings is a teen book and Pride and Prejudice is not.  And somehow Ender’s Game is too violent for teens (no sorry NPR, there is NO SUCH THING as too violent for teens, at least until we find a way to raise them in bubbles where they never have to experience the horrors of the real world) but The Hunger Games and Lord of the Flies aren’t.  Yeah, that makes SO MUCH SENSE.  How do you feel about the NPR poll?  Any disappointments?  What will you be picking?

Please share any links or stories you fun interesting or fun this week with us in the comments!  GO OLYMPICS!
