How to Throw a DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE Party!

This November 6th is due to be a very important day.  No, no, no, I’m not talking about the election.  I’m talking about the release of Days of Blood & Starlight, the highly anticipated sequel to Laini Taylor’s fantastic fantasy, Daughter of Smoke & Bone!  To help you celebrate this momentous occasion, FYA has put together some easy steps for you to host your own Blood & Starlight release party, or ways to celebrate on your own, in style.

Eats 'n’ Drinks

No good party exists without food and If you’re feeling ambitious, you can make your very own goulash.  While it may not be as good as the Poison Kitchen’s, it’s sure to be a hit.

Any good party requires cocktails, and any GREAT party requires themed cocktails. In honor of our favorite crotchety demon, serve up a Dark and Stormy, then add teeth ice cubes to make it an official Brimstone.

2 ounces dark rum
3 ounces ginger beer
1/2 ounce lime juice

Combine the rum, the ginger beer, and the lime juice in a tall glass full of teeth ice cubes. Stir. Then savor a cocktail just as dark and spicy as Brimstone's personality!  [recipe source]

Proper Attire

Any proper Daughter of Smoke & Bone celebration has to have masks.  Creative types can certainly make their own, but if you’re lazy like I am, you can find mardi gras masks at any party story or online.  The more animalistic, the better!

If you want fashion inspiration from Karou, you can always invest in a blue wig.  Though be warned, people will definitely assume your are trying to channel Katy Perry.

If you want to dress as a chimaera, Etsy is full of horns and antlers that you can use as your animal aspect.  You could get some wings and dress as a seraph, but I would seriously look down on you because I’m Team Chimaera.

If you’d like to take your decorating tips from the Poison Kitchen, you can actually buy decorative (and working!) gas masks right off the internet.  (And bonus!  You can use your gas mask as a Halloween costume or for a Doctor Who themed party and dress up as that creepy gas-mask kid from The Empty Child episode.  No creepy kid, I am NOT your mummy!)

For something a little more cost effective, take some black finger paint and make hand prints on pieces of paper to hang from your walls and especially doors!

Now what your ideas for a Daughter of Smoke & Bone party are?  Will you be celebrating next week?  And which of you will be reading Days of Blood & Starlight the moment it comes out?  Let us know!

And BONUS!  Leave a comment below if you'd like to win a BLUE WIG AND MASK, courtesy of Little, Brown.  You can wear them for your own DOSAB party or just for funsies.  Just mention WIG in your comment to enter! I will pick TWO winners on November 6th!
