This month's FYA book club pick is the incredible, amazing, crushing, breathtaking Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, and since I can never pass up a chance to pick through vintage-inspired styles in search of something new (and accidentally buy a new dress I won't be able to fit in for several months ... oops), I bring you some outfits inspired by Maddie, Verity, and just the general 1940s.
Maddie would definitely not be caught out without her trusty boots, and I think she'd've loved Rosie the Riveter and her scarf if she'd been American.
To really embrace the spirit of the war effort, you should knit your OWN orange pullover from reclaimed wool. If orange isn't your color, or is too flashy for austerity, this green is quite nice. These understated, elegant dresses might not get much wear, but Verity'd love to have them. And I'd love to have those red shoes!
Didn't dig anything above? Why not check out some of these modern styles inspired by the 1940s. Pair the peplum top with skinny jeans, or sport the cropped, reclaimed sweater with a cute skirt or some high-waisted Katharine Hepburn trousers.
