The Official FYA DIVERGENT Movie Drinking Game

Because our fearscape is a world without cocktails.

The Official FYA DIVERGENT Movie Drinking Game

Hey there, initiates! The wait for Divergent is almost over, and since we care about you deeply, we've crafted a drinking game to enhance your film viewing experience.

The FYA Divergent Drinking Game

Take a drink when:

•  Your favorite character first appears
•  The camera focuses on a tattoo
•  Tris chooses Dauntless
•  The camera focuses on the Dauntless initiate score board
•  Four throws a knife
•  A syringe is inserted into a neck
•  Tris says, "This isn't real."
•  Four shoots Eric during Capture the Flag
•  A member of Dauntless dies
•  Tris shoots someone

Take a shot when:

•  Tris takes the blue shot* to begin her test
•  Tris zip-lines
•  Tris and Four finally kiss
•  Tris throws a knife into Jeanine's hand

*If you really want to keep it real, here's some recipes for blue shots.

Also, when it comes to this movie, you can make like Dauntless, because there is NOTHING to fear. Here's what I loved (spoilers ahead!):

•  The entire cast: My impressions from the set visit were dead on, because this collection of actors is AMAZE.

•  Shailene as a believable badass: At the beginning of the film, she's meek and kinda lame, but by the end, she is FIERCE. Girlfriend pays fine tribute to the character of Tris, and the running gag about her shooting people is just... SO GOOD.

•  Shailene and Theo's chemistry: The haters out there can suck it, because these two were ON FIRE.

•  High stakes action: The tense competition amidst the initiates is palpable, and all of the combat scenes were riveting and completely brutal.

•  Miles Teller as Peter: This was a given, but Miles Teller was fantastically obnoxious as Peter. From his seemingly ad-libbed lines ("Take it off... Put it back on.") to his imperious gaze, Miles made me ever so glad that Peter appears in all three books.

And now, a few complaints:

•  Why the HELL did they take out the scene where Peter stabs Edward in the eye?!! They filmed it, so that means the director intentionally cut it from the movie. Without that plot point, non-book-fans have no grasp of Peter's depravity, plus how the eff will the next film explain why Edward shows up factionless and with an eye patch?!!

•  I realize that the movie has to focus on Tris and Four, but dammit, this cast was WAY too good to get such minimal screen time. In particular, Will (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) is so freaking charming, but his death doesn't feel quite as heartbreaking because he only appears briefly in the film. (And maybe I missed it, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of acknowledgement that he and Christina are dating.) Same goes for Al, played by the wonderfully compelling Christian Madsen, who made the most of his scenes but still deserved more time. RIP.

Overall, I feel that this film did justice to Veronica Roth's novel, and since I wasn't a huge fan of Insurgent, I'm hopeful that the next film can make certain, erm, improvements.

What did y'all think?!! Let's make like Candor and dish in the comments!
