YA Movie News Roundup: A VERONICA MARS Spinoff!

Welcome back to the YA Movie News Roundup! Let's hop to, shall we?

There's going to beVeronica Mars spinoff web series staring Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) and co-written and produced by Rob Thomas! It'll be called Play It Again, Dick, and here's the premise:

Play It Again, Dick takes a meta approach to the franchise. Hansen plays himself as he 'begs, cajoles, and pleads with his former Veronica Mars castmates and friends to help him get his character, Dick Casablancas, his own spin-off show.'

That premise sets the stage for several high-profile guest appearances, including some from Hansen’s former Veronica Mars co-stars.

Cool, right? This sounds cool. I'm all for more Veronica Mars and more Dick.

Michelle Forbes, of The KillingTrue BloodOrphan BlackBattlestar Galactica and more fame will play District 13's Lt. Jackson in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

See a bunch of stills from The Giver here, and check out some gifs here!

Octavia Spencer will be in Insurgent! She'll play Johanna, the leader of Amity. Brilliant casting. Also Divergent made $250 million worldwide.

Rebel Wilson will star in the Private Benjamin remake! I approve.

Clueless reunion! Clueless reunion!

The Weinstein Company is adapting the web series The Haunting of Sunshine Girl into a YA book and a movie franchise.

And Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to a movie version of David Levithan and Andrea Cremer's Invisibility, about:

a 16-year-old boy who is literally invisible. He then meets and falls for his new neighbor, the one person who can actually see him. The two the set out to discover the truth behind his affliction, uncovering curses and spells along the way.

That's it for this week! Lay it on me downstairs.
