YA Movie News Roundup: Christian Bale And Benedict Cumberbatch Will Join That Other JUNGLE BOOK

Welcome back to the YA Movie News Roundup, where most of the news these days seems to be about one or the other of the Jungle Book adaptations heading our way.

This week it's Andy Serkis' ill-named Jungle Book: Origins, which landed some major casting scores this week. Benedict Cumberbatch will voice Shere Khan, Christian Bale will play Begheera, Cate Blanchett will be Kaa, Naomie Harris will be Nisha, Eddie Marsan's going to play Vihaan, Tom Hollander will be Tabaqui, Rohan Chand will be Mowgli and Serkis himself - king of mo-cap - will play Baloo.

Reviews are in for If I Stay, and they're a mixed bag, although the bag is more negative than positive, with 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. Posh dug it. Jennie was more lukewarm

The Maze Runner - which has some very positive early buzz - is getting an IMAX release.

David Yates - director of Harry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixHalf-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Part One and Two - may return to the franchise with the spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe is slaying hearts by being the greatest guy ever. His thoughts on the execrable phrase "the friend zone."

Not strictly YA movie news but definitely relevant to our interests:

The Frozen trailer and Fifty Shades trailer wed in unholy matrimony:

Robin Hood TV musical series?

Josh Boone, director of The Fault in Our Stars, is in talks to write and direct The Vampire Lestat adaptation, news that YA Meredith would find VERY interesting.

Finally: happy 20th anniversary, My So-Called Life! We had a time, didn't we?

That's it for this week: lay it on me downstairs!
