YA Movie News Roundup: THE SCORCH TRIALS Has a Release Date and New MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 Photos

Welcome to the latest edition of YA Movie News Roundup! Ms. Meredith is off being Fantastic this week, so little ol’ me will be bringing you the latest in news about YA film adaptations. *fancy bow*

First up: Even though it just opened this past Friday, The Maze Runner is doing exceptionally well at the box office. The sequel—The Scorch Trials—which is already prepping for filming, will be released Sept. 18, 2015. Here’s a video of director Wes Ball (who Posh chatted with a couple of weeks ago) talking about the movies:

(And, in case you missed it, here’s Posh’s review of the film.)

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 press machine continues to churn down the District-connecting tracks, this week bringing us the full-length version of the song from the first trailer (“Auryn” by Brand X), interviews with new cast members and new stills, including these:

Get out of here with that FIERCENESS, Natalie Dormer. You’re showing up the series’ star!

In John Green news, Paper Towns will film in North Carolina. (John’s parents, who live in the Tar Heel State, are apparently “psyched!”) And a deleted scene from The Fault in Our Stars—which has passed the $300 million mark worldwide—has been released:

Related: The 2008 Christmas story anthology Let it Snow, featuring stories from John Green, Lauren Myracle, and Maureen Johnson, has been optioned for film. The book’s synopsis goes thusly:

Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.

Do you have Twitter or Instagram and copies of The 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea? You could win the opportunity to join author Rick Yancey and the movie’s cast on the set of The 5th Wave! Just take a picture of yourself with your books, and post it to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #5thWaveSetVisitEntry. (Find more info and the official rules here.)

And in not-quite-YA-but-close-enough news:

The Pete’s Dragon remake has found its Pete.

Here’s a new Into the Woods poster featuring a very witchy Meryl Streep.

And that’s it for this week, movie fans! (Thanks so much for having me, Meredith!)

Did I miss anything awesome? Are you itching to shave one side of your head now? (No? Just me?) Let’s discuss in the comments!
