Most Anticipated Books of 2015: Sequels and Follow-ups

FYA reveals their most anticipated YA sequel and follow-up releases for 2015.

Most Anticipated Books of 2015: Sequels and Follow-ups

Yesterday, we shared our list of standalones and series starters that we're looking forward to this year. And now, here are the sequels and follow-ups that we're eagerly awaiting in 2015!

(Sliiiiight spoilers possibly ahead, so tread carefully!)

Golden Sun by Pierce Brown (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: Red Rising Trilogy, Book 2
Publication Date: 6 January 2015

Why I'm Excited: Red Rising was one of my top picks for 2014. It’s not an easy novel, by any means, but it definitely struck a chord, and even the whole “Hunger Games meets Game of Thrones” didn’t deter me from being captivated by the unique world Brown created. I’m hoping Golden Son continues to intrigue.

Fairest by Marissa Meyer (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Lunar Chronicles, Book 0.1
Publication Date: 27 January 2015

Why I'm Excited: Although the fact that this novella being released means I have to wait longer for the series to complete, and it likely doesn’t feature my favorite characters in the series (i.e., the protagonists), I will take anything I can get from the Lunar Chronicles world. Plus, it can be interesting to find out the other side of a story.

The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Bone Season, Book 2
Publication Date: 27 January 2015

Why I'm Excited: I found The Bone Season way later than most, but I really loved the steampunk meets science fiction plot—and the swoon was nearly off the charts. MOAR PLEASE.

The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson (picked by Jennie)
Series: The Shades of London, Book 3
Publication Date: 10 February 2015

Why I'm Excited: It seems like forever since The Madness Underneath left us with the cruelest ending ever. I know other things are supposed to happen, but WHAT WILL BECOME OF STEPHEN? Will he and Rory make otherworldly pottery? Will Whoopi Goldberg tell Rory, “Girl, you in danger?” After two years WE WILL FINALLY FIND OUT.

The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski (picked by Mandy W.)
Series: The Winner’s Trilogy, Book 2
Publication Date: 3 March 2015

Why I'm Excited: Well, I did force lovingly suggest that the FYA Book Club read its predecessor, so you better believe I'm pumped up for this. I'm almost afraid to read this, since I know I won't want to stop once I start and I'll have to wait A WHOLE YEAR for more story. (Yeah, I'm already penciling in Book 3 for my Most Anticipated 2016 list; that's how much I love this series.)

Burning Kingdoms by Lauren DeStefano (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Interment Chronicles, Book 2
Publication Date: 10 March 2015

Why I'm Excited: It’s been two dang years since we found out what happened when Morgan dared to question authority in her community that floats amongst the clouds. I need to know what happens next! (BRB—Re-reading the first book so I can remember better what actually happened.)

Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story by David Levithan (picked by Mandy W.)
Series: Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Book 2 (companion novel)
Publication Date: 17 March 2015

Why I'm Excited: The Will Graysons may have been the stars, but Tiny Cooper definitely stole the show. And soon, we'll finally be able to read the full script of his autobiographical musical. Cue Sir Elton, 'cause it's time for Tiny Cooper to take centre stage!

Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins (picked by Jennie)
Series: Rebel Belle, Book 2
Publication Date: 7 April 2015

Why I'm Excited: Savannah, of course, gets dibs on this one and a huge thanks for introducing us to the fun, Southern-Buffy-style world of Harper and her hot new boyfriend/ward David. But I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in Hawkins’ breezy universe of Junior League, cotillion, and supernatural ass-kicking.

The Wondrous and the Wicked by Page Morgan (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Disposessed, Book 3
Publication Date: 14 April 2015

Why I'm Excited: Will the sexy gargoyle get his girl? I MUST KNOW.

Siren’s Fury by Mary Weber (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: Storm Siren, Book 2
Publication Date: 2 June 2015

Why I'm Excited: Storm Siren left us hanging with one of the WORST cliffhangers I’ve read in a long while. I’m hoping Siren’s Fury makes up for that … but doesn’t follow suit and leave us with yet another cliffhanger. Because, really, that’s just mean.

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han (picked by Mandy W.)
Series: To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Book 2
Publication Date: 2 June 2015

Why I'm Excited: Not only did I love the first book, but the tease of Lara Jean's last letter left me clamouring for more. The world might not be a wish granting factory, but Jenny Han's certainly making mine come true with a sequel to one of my fave books from last year.

The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Queen of the Tearling, Book 2
Publication Date: 9 June 2015

Why I'm Excited: The Queen of the Tearling is yet another series that crosses the line between YA and adult like a kid playing a game of Red Rover (see also: Golden Son), and yet, I want to know more about Kelsea’s world, her kingdom and what nefarious plot her enemies have in store for her next.

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Remnant Chronicles, Book 2
Publication Date: 7 July 2015

Why I'm Excited: The twists! The turns! The ending that left us hanging, in more ways than one—Pearson certainly knows how to write an engrossing story. I can’t wait to dive back into Lia’s adventures, and find out more about the two men in her life.

Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray (picked by Jennie)
Series: The Diviners, Book 2
Publication Date: 7 July 2015

Why I'm Excited: The publishing date on this one has been moved back a few times for reasons she’s publicly discussed, which means it’s made our Most Anticipated list two years in a row! I’m willing to wait if it means losing ourselves in Evie’s dark 1920s New York.

The 5th Wave, Book 3 by Rick Yancey (picked by Posh)
Series: The 5th Wave, Book 3
Publication Date: August 2015 March 2016

Why I'm Excited: There ain’t no title, and there ain’t no synopsis, but there are SO MANY QUESTIONS TO ANSWER. Let us pray that I don’t die from TEABS before this book is released.

The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Falconer, Book 2
Publication Date: 17 September 2015

Why I'm Excited: There seems to be a theme with many of my most anticipated picks for 2015: their predecessors left us hanging in the worst of ways. The Falconer was no exception. Why you gotta play me like that authors? I’m such a sucker for a TBC.

(Semi-related: WHAT IS THIS COVER? The first one was so good.)

The Elemental Trilogy, Book 3 by Sherry Thomas (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Elemental Trilogy, Book 3
Publication Date: September 2015

Why I'm Excited: The second book in this series (which, admittedly, suffered from Bridge Book Blues), seemed to pose more questions than it answered, so I’m looking forward to some actual answers/resolutions in the third book of the series.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (picked by Posh)
Series: Fangirl, Book 2 (companion novel)
Publication Date: 6 October 2015

Why I'm Excited: When Rainbow Rowell announced that she was writing a Simon Snow novel, she made all of our dreams come true. There’s no way I can keep calm about this development, but I will most certainly carry on, Simon!

The Rose Society by Marie Lu (picked by Mandy W.)
Series: The Young Elites, Book 2
Publication Date: 6 October 2015

Why I'm Excited: With the stunning finish that The Young Elites had, I obviously need Adelina and the rest of the superpowered cast back in my life, STAT. Will the Rose Society emerge as the Brotherhood of Mutants to the Dagger Society's X-Men? I sure as hell hope so.

The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin (picked by Posh)
Series: The Passage, Book 3
Publication Date: 22 Oct 2015

Why I'm Excited: This isn’t YA, but my fervent anticipation requires that it be included here. It’s been over two years since The Twelve was released and seriously, Justin, YOU’RE KILLING ME.

Winter by Marissa Meyer (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Lunar Chronicles, Book 4
Publication Date: 24 November 2015

Why I'm Excited: This is what I feel when I think about this series drawing to a close:

Followed closely by this:

When I realize this series is drawing to a close. I trust that the series will end well, but, but … the characters are my friends, y’all. I’m going to miss them like whoa.

Blood Passage by Heather Demetrios (picked by Mandy W.)
Series: Dark Caravan Cycle, Book 2
Publication Date: 2015 2016

Why I'm Excited: As soon as I finished Exquisite Captive, I just had to know what's going to happen to my favourite jinn on the other side of (and during) that awkward plane ride. Plus, Heather Demetrios' research trip for Blood Passage gives me serious travel envy that can only be cured by reading the book immediately. Won't somebody please give me the cure!?

Truly Madly Famously by Rebecca Serle (picked by Posh)
Series: Famous in Love, Book 2
Publication Date: 2015

Why I'm Excited: I got real hot and heavy with Famous in Love, and the way we ended things.. well, let’s just say that I’ve got some needs that must be SATISFIED with this sequel. I’m itching to return to the drama-filled, uber-juicy life of Paige Townsen and her hunky co-stars in the Twilight Locked trilogy. TEAM JORDAN.

The Raven Cycle, Book 4 by Maggie Stiefvater (picked by Posh)
Series: The Raven Cycle, Book 4
Publication Date: 2015 2016

Why I'm Excited: We need to create a term that captures that feeling of DYING TO READ A BOOK and NOT WANTING A SERIES TO BE OVER. Because I will lean heavily on that term (anticimorse? pre-TEABS?) when the fourth and final Raven Boys book is released. I’ll be the first to admit that the third book disappointed me, but that just means that a whole lotta shizz is gonna go down in this last installment, and I will DEVOUR IT WHOLE. And then I will cry all of the tears, because a world without new adventures with Blue and her boys is a very bleak world indeed.

So which sequels and follow-ups are you looking forward to in 2015? Let us know in the comments! And don't forget to check out our most anticipated standalones and series starters!
