Meet the Authors of the FYA Book Club!

There are many cool things about the FYA Book Club, but did you know that some of members are authors, too? So cool, right!? A bunch of them have stopped by the FYA lockers to tell us a little bit about themselves and their books. Get ready for the most fun and bookish speed dates with these lovely authors! (Click profiles/images to enlarge.)

Name: Maggie Hall
Location: Albuquerque, NM (with a year-long stint in New Orleans)
Joined FYABC: At the very beginning! Our fearless Albuquerque FYABC leader Kristen Boers and I are both longtime FYA readers, and she actually contacted me off some comments of an FYA post even before the book club existed. We had our own informal book club before it became official, and we've been going strong ever since. (Minus the year I spent hanging out with the New Orleans FYABC, who are also fabulous!)
Favourite Cocktail: Champagne. Anything champagne.

The Conspiracy of Us (2015, YA international thriller):
Avery West's newfound family can shut down Prada when they want to shop in peace, and can just as easily order a bombing when they want to start a war. Part of a powerful and dangerous secret society called the Circle of Twelve, they believe Avery is the key to an ancient prophecy. Some of them want to use her as a pawn. Some want her dead.
Forbidden love and code-breaking, masked balls and explosions, destiny and dark secrets collide in this romantic thriller, in the vein of a YA Da Vinci Code.

City of Savages (2015, YA near-future thriller):
When two sisters attempt to escape war-torn Manhattan, dark well-kept secrets about their family and the city begin to surface from the wreckage.

The Cloak Society trilogy (2012-14, middle grade fantasy):
Alex is a junior member of the Cloak Society, a team of badass supervillains in Texas. His parents are determined to turn him into a weapon and use him to get revenge on their enemies (and probably eventually take over humanity). Also, he’s got telekinetic powers which are really starting to flare up now that he’s turned twelve and has a lot of #feelings. It’s all heists and black trench coats until Alex instinctively saves the life of a young superhero (plot twist!) and starts to wonder for the first time what, exactly, he’s been fighting for.

The Violet Hour series (2014-, YA horror/science fiction):
A powerful cult and visions of a bloody alternate future: welcome to Harlow Wintergreen's life. The Violet Hour and The Crimson Gate are a horror-tastic race around the world, with a sci-fi bent. It will keep you squirming in your seat, covering your eyes (and grateful you still have them), and hoping Harlow keeps it together before the whole world comes to an end. No big deal.

Alice is sick and she doesn't have much time left, but she's not interested in a Mother Theresa legacy. With Harvey, her childhood friend, she makes a list of all the things she has yet to do and all the people she'd like to have a final word with. Alice completes her list by doing whatever it takes and with little regard for anyone else's feelings. And then, without warning, Alice goes into remission. Like Alice, karma can be a real bitch.

Dumplin' (2015, YA contemporary):
Willowdean knows that she's a badass. A fat badass. She's got curves and rolls in all the right places. But when Will falls hard for former jock, Bo Larson, she is surprised to learn that her feelings are reciprocated. When their relationship turns into more than flirtation, Will finds her ever present confidence faltering, so she does the unthinkable and enters her small town beauty pageant with several other unlikely contestants. With Dolly Parton as her spirit guide, she'll shock the hell out of her tiny town--and maybe herself most of all.

Favourite Cocktail: I love a ginger-y Moscow Mule in a cold copper mug. Or if I'm being fancypants, a French 75 is lovely. And since I live in Colorado, I think I'm contractually obligated to mention beer. Beer! (But really, there's a lot of good beer here.)

Descendants series (2013-, New Adult urban fantasy):
Protect. Repel. Kill.
That’s the job description of a Descendant, a line of demon hunters responsible for protecting humanity and citizen demons from all the things that go bump. And all the things that screech and claw and have a hankering for raw hearts.
Demon hunter Rachel and her best friend, half-mer Kendra, have to balance class with stopping murderous—and hangry—beasties. Just like every college freshman, right?
The hunt began with Creature Discomforts, the first in a new adult fantasy e-novella trilogy. It continues in Eat Your Heart Out and will conclude with Demon Over Easy.
