Title: Orphan Black S3 Wrap-Up
Released: 2015
Series:  Orphan Black

Spoiler Alert: Major spoilers for Season 3 ahead!

When we found out that Marc is part of Project Castor in Season 2 finale of Orphan Black, we knew we’d be in for a ride of more surprises, mysteries, and twists for the third season. Here are some of those best moments of Season 3!

5. Brothers and Sisters

3.3 “Formalized, Complex, and Costly”

We all know the Castor clones are the Clone Club’s dangerous and life-threatening rivals, but it came as a huge shock when it was revealed that they are the Leda clones’ biological brothers! Perhaps it was already hinted at in previous episodes but it doesn’t make this moment any less exciting as it brings us closer to answers for questions we’ve been asking the past two seasons. Considering their “rough-around-the-edges” demeanor and the fact that they were raised in the military, it wasn’t surprising that Sarah and her sisters wanted to stay as far away from them as possible. But now that Sarah discovered that they are blood-related, will we be able to discover even more revelations?

4. Saying Goodbye to Paul

3.6 “Certain Agony of the Battlefield”

One of the most unexpectedly tragic moments of this season was the loss of Paul. Although he hasn’t always been the most interesting character on the show, the sacrifice he makes is as heartbreaking as they come. It’s widely said that the majority of the male characters on this show are incredibly one-dimensional, but we see Paul break through that shell and finally show some emotion. After forcing Sarah down an escape route, he admits that it was never Beth he really loved – it was Sarah. And it was Sarah he sacrifices his life for in the end.

3. Meeting Alison’s Mother

3.7 “Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate”

Alison’s mother, Connie, was mentioned briefly in the first season but didn’t seem integral to any stories until she appeared in this episode. Just a few minutes on screen with Mother Hendrix makes it obvious why Alison has developed some interesting characteristics. Alison’s mother is adamant on disapproving of Alison’s lifestyle: her husband, her political campaign, and seemingly her general existence. Once she meets Cosima and Alison reveals that they’re clones, all Momma Hendrix can say is that Cosima is a “mulatto.” Considering all the tense mysteries and action filling up screen time, it’s somewhat of a relief to see Connie break the tension – even if she does come off as a horrible person.

2. All in the Family

3.9 “Insolvent Phantoms of Tomorrow”

It isn’t until the ninth episode that things get really bizarre. Mrs. S’s mother, Kendall Malone, is revealed to not only be the original DNA donor for the Castor clones, but for the Leda clones as well! Because she absorbed her twin brother in the womb, she has both male and female DNA, and it was that DNA that was used to start both lines. It is a hard fact for everyone to swallow but it ultimately draws Sarah, Mrs. S, and the rest of the gang closer together. The mere fact that she has both male and female DNA is shocking and even a little weird but makes a whole lot of sense. In addition, we finally find out where the clones came from!

1. Sarah and Kira Back Together Again

3.10 “History Yet To Be Written”

Sarah will do anything to protect her family – but most importantly, her daughter. What the typical viewer may not realize is that Kira is possibly the key character in this whole mess. With carrying out menial and major tasks to help out her sisters, plotting with Mrs. S and Felix, fighting clandestine organizations, and searching for answers, Sarah is only doing what a mother would do to protect her child. Although there wasn’t enough screen time of Kira, we find her back together with her mother again in the season finale as they embrace and lay in the snow together. This was one of the best scenes simply because it reminds us what this show is about: family.

After all of the big deaths, reveals, and reunions of the third season, it is hard to imagine what the next one could have in store for our favorite clones.
