Welcome back to our TV Preview series! In case this is your first time joining the series, let me explain: During September and October, I’ll be investigating the shows highlighted in our TV Preview: New Friends post, and letting you know—in my humble opinion—what’s worthy of watching live, what can wait until the weekend, what can wait until it’s on Netflix, or what can wait, well, forever.
Warning! Possible spoilers ahead.
Premiered: Oct. 12 on The CW (Watch online.)
If you’re a fan of grand gestures—and grand musical numbers—this show will be right up your alley. #crazyissubjective #butrebeccaiscrazy
Isabella Hofmann as Laura
Pete Gardner as Darryl Whitefeather
Faces That Might Become Familiar (If You Keep Watching)
Rachel Bloom as Rebecca Bunch
Vincent Rodriguez III as Josh Chan
Dominique Toney as Rebecca’s Assistant
Donna Lynne Champlin as Paula
Gina Gallego as Mrs. Hernandez
Santino Fontana as Greg Serrano
Side note: If I closed my eyes while Santino was talking, all I could picture was Hans.
1. I love musicals.
2. This show does not take itself seriously.
3. This show mixes musical numbers with that lack of seriousness, to great effect.
I also adore Paula.
It's Not Me, It's You
Some of the jokes were more than a little not funny, and actually made me cringe. And, I do not get the appeal of Josh Chan. Vincent is cute and all, but … the character is kind of an idiot. I hope Rebecca finds more in West Covina to do than be awkward in her quest to reunite with him.
Let's Do This Again
I’m not totally in love with the crazy of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend yet, but I feel like the show has a lot of promise. And by promise I mean that Santino Fontana will totally sing at one point, and I can’t wait. I’ll be checking in again for sure.
