Inkcouragement: NaNoWriMo Has Begun!

We're five days into NaNoWriMo 2015 already! If you're trying to stay on target with 1,667 words per day, you should be hitting the 8,335 mark today. Damn, that word count flies! (Or...does it?) Either way, we're here for you and your soon-to-be work of art. I'm right there with you in the trenches, too (and hopefully, announcing this to the world will shame me into keeping on track despite the inevitable November craziness).

NaNoWriMo has been offering author pep talks for years, so head on over to that page to be encouraged by YA faves such as Meg Cabot, Garth Nix, Gayle Forman, Maureen Johnson, Veronica Roth, Rainbow Rowell, Marie Lu, and so many more.

And of course, Inkcouragement has got your back too. Here are some of our best pep talks and advice:

- How to build a world: fantasy, contemporary, and historical

- Editing: Don't worry, your novel will undergo so many changes by the time it's published!

- Which is why you shouldn't worry about being perfect.

- You might need to murder your darlings, figuratively and literally.

Consider this your virtual support group: tell us all about your novel! Have you ever done (and won) NaNo before? Are you staying on track, or are you already wandering the word desert, desperately in search of an interesting oasis? Are you a planner or a pantser? What is your targeted word count, if you're going for something beyond 50k?

And don't forget, when all else fails...

Jennie's photo About the Author: Jennie Kendrick lives in San Francisco and has an excessive fondness of historical fiction, spreadsheets, turquoise sparkly things, and bourbon. When she's not reading, writing, or writing about reading, she cooks obsessively, runs an Etsy shop, and thrifts for vintage everything.
