GiftLit’s Fierce Reads Collection

It could come as no surprise that we here at FYA HQ love books, and we love bookish swag. So when given the opportunity to review a new subscription service that focuses on hot YA titles from Macmillan’s Fierce Reads collection—and promo items that tie in with the collection—I jumped at the chance.

Here’s the scoop, straight from the GiftLit site:

Want the hottest and best Young Adult Books delivered each month to your door? Then you're going to love this collection. These books are just published hardcovers and the very best of the Young Adult Genre. They are Bold; they are Fiery; they are Fierce.

But wait! There's more. Included with this subscription box are some amazing collectibles, perfect for the avid book lover. Shipped with your gift card you'll get a stockpile of treasures including signed book plates, posters, lip gloss and more!

Overview

The GiftLit Fierce Reads collection comes in 3-, 6-, or 12-month subscriptions, for $59.95, $114.95, or $229.95, respectively, or around $19 a month for a book and the various collectibles that come along with.

The collection is planned 12 months at a time, so a quick visit to the GiftLit site and you can see which books you’ll be getting in advance. I like this feature of the service, as knowing which books I’ll receive might help me avoid any double orders. This also allows you—and this is by far my favorite feature—to swap out any book that you might already have or that doesn’t interest you. And the book you swap for doesn’t have to be from the Fierce Reads collection.

The GiftLit service is part of Kepler’s Books, an independent bookstore, whose distributor, Ingram Content Group, has the largest book inventory in the country with more than 7.5 million titles. So you’re bound to find something you like.

Note: The service is currently only available in the U.S.

Box No. 1

The first box I received included these great items, much of which is swag people who attend the various stops on the Fierce Reads tour will also have the opportunity to snag.

A poster and a lip gloss for Marie Rutkoski’s The Winner’s Trilogy, personalized GiftLit bookplates, signed bookplates from Emma Mills and Marissa Meyer, a poster for Mary E. Pearson’s The Beauty of Darkness, a nailpolish for Leigh Bardugo's Ruin and Rising, a temporary tattoo for Cecelia Ahern’s Flawed, and a Fierce Reads coloring book featuring the covers and authors of many Fierce Reads titles.

The first book I was scheduled to receive was Harriet Reuter Hapgood’s The Square Root of Summer, which I already own (and have reviewed). So I swapped it out for a copy of Cassandra Clare’s Lady Midnight (because Malec). And I was pleasantly surprised to receive a signed copy!

The Verdict

I think this subscription would be a great gift for any book loving person in your life—even, yes, yourself. The books are quality reads from awesome authors, and the bonus items are a lot of fun. I think the swap feature is a unique benefit, too, particularly for someone like myself who often already has a lot of new releases.

FTC Full Disclosure: I received a free three month subscription from GiftLit in exchange for this honest review.
