Netflix Fix: BRING IT ON

It’s not a democracy, it’s a cheerocracy.

Netflix Fix: BRING IT ON

Title: Bring It On
Year: 2000
Fix: High School Heart, Cheerleading, Early Aughts Teen Movies, Spirit Fingers

Netflix Summary:

Pressure mounts on the captain of a decorated cheerleading squad as she attempts to lead her crew to to its sixth consecutive national title.

FYA Summary:

Torrance is just your average high school senior, and newly crowned cheer captain, with a regrettable boyfriend, and a terrible brother that even their parents can’t stand. She’s ready to breeze into another year of competitive cheerleading, when the new girl at school reveals that she’s familiar with the Torros award-winning moves, because (unbeknownst to Torrance) they were stolen from inner city L.A. squad, the Clovers. With so little time before Regionals, the team is forced to raise money to hire a professional choreographer, with disastrous results. Can they get a new routine together in time to save their champion title?

Familiar Faces:

Kirsten Dunst as Torrance

Torrance is Kiki Dunst at her most sunny and dimpled. Torrance just wants to be good team captain and lead her team to Nationals, preferably not with a stolen routine.

Eliza Dushku as Missy

She’s the tough new city girl in town, with serious athletic skills, but sadly, no stakes. Missy joins the team to work out her gymnastic frustrations.

Jesse Bradford as Cliff

Cliff is the cute new alt boy from L.A. and also Missy’s brother. He has loads of smirk, and plays the guitar, and is unaware that Torrance has a boyfriend. Oops.

Gabrielle Union as Isis

Isis is the captain of the Clovers squad, and a formidable opponent. This will also serve as your reminder that Gabrielle Union has been slaying for even longer than you remembered.

Couch-Sharing Capability: Squad Goals

This movie is best enjoyed with your besties, or your sister, or an entire theater full of women at Girlie Night. I’ve done all three, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

Recommended Level of Inebriation: Boone’s Farm

Or, you know, whatever you want to drink to channel your teenage self. How better to enjoy sick burns, swoony toothbrushing, and those beloved late ‘90’s Steve Madden platform slides?

Use of Your Netflix Subscription: GO, TEAM, GO

I’m going to assume you belong to one of two camps. You’ve seen Bring it On 430 times, as of last weekend. Or, it’s been a few years and you’re ready to relive that magic. I refuse to believe there is anyone reading this who’s never experienced this singular joy. But, just in case you happened to have been living off the grid for the last 16 years (that Y2K thing was a trip, right?), TODAY IS YOUR LUCKY DAY.
