About:

Title: While You Were Sleeping
Released: 1995

Fix: Questionably Ethical But Delightful Rom Com, Peter Gallagher’s Eyebrows Acting For Him, Bill Pullman at Peak Hotness, Holiday Cheer
Platforms: DisneyPlus

Official Summary:

Some girls find love with a prince. Some, with a mogul. This shy romantic’s dream date? A coma victim.

FYA Summary:

Lucy works as a token collector for Chicago’s transit system, watching the world go by from her little booth. Seeing Peter go off to work is the highlight of her day, until she saves him from certain death. He ends up in a coma, and she tells the medical authorities that she’s his fiance, so she’ll be allowed to check in on him. Somehow, his family overhears, and although they had no idea Peter was engaged, they welcome Lucy with open arms…including Peter’s ridiculously hot brother Jack, who might end being a much better match for her. (Oh, hell, this is a romantic comedy, and probably one you’ve seen before. You know what’s up.)

Familiar Faces:

Sandra Bullock as Lucy

Sandra is so young here, fresh off her success in Speed.

Peter Gallagher as Peter

Although Peter spends most of the movie in a coma, his eyebrows are warming up for their douchey perfection in Center Stage and their warm idealism in The O.C.

Bill Pullman as Jack

Bill Pullman is at peak hotness in this movie, and I don’t even like blondes, usually. I dare you not to fall in love with him. He leans.

Couch-Sharing Capability: High

Silly rom coms like this are meant to be shared, especially when random stuff like this happens:

Nice one, kid.

Recommended Level of Inebriation: Festive

Since the movie takes place in the week between Christmas and New Year’s, this is the perfect time of year to grab your festive beverages and settle under a pile of blankets. Dr. Jennie recommends 2-3 beverages over the course of the movie, or until you forget your misgivings about Lucy being a total creeper and give yourself over to the charm.

Use of Your Subscription: Required

If you haven’t seen this 20 times already, what are you waiting for? And if you have, one more time isn’t going to hurt you. In fact, with the state of the world as it is, you should probably call in sick to work, break out the tea (and brandy), and fondly remember a time when an actual human collected tokens (tokens!) for public transit. Oh, you poor dear, that cough sounds terrible!
