The DAWSON’S CREEK Rewatch Project: Dawson’s Gonna Direct A Real Movie!

Well, sort of. Plus the Return of Eddie, Pacey visits the dark side and Audrey STILL hasn't hit rock bottom?!

The DAWSON’S CREEK Rewatch Project: Dawson’s Gonna Direct A Real Movie!

Follow the whole rewatch here!

Last week, on Dawson’s Creek.

Welcome back to the Dawson's Creek Rewatch Project, where Joey and Eddie are hot and cold but Jack and David are just HOT.

Let's drink to Dawson's big promotion!

The Dawson's Creek Drinking Game

Drink Once every time:

Joey purses her mouth or chews on her lip

Joey tucks her hair behind her ear

Sex makes Dawson and/or Joey extremely uncomfortable

Grams says "Jennifaaah"

Pacey wears a shirt that makes you want to blind yourself

Audrey declares something risqué or insane with utter confidence

Drink Twice every time:

You have literally no idea why Joey is mad

Pacey gives someone a really good hug

Cool Jen Lindley is totally crapped on by the universe

Onto the episodes!

6.11 "Day Out of Days"

"Day Out of Days" shows a typical week in the life of Dawson's Crew. Let's take it day bidet, shall we? (Wet Hot American Summer joke!)

MONDAY:

Todd's movie has wrapped, and Dawson and Natasha share a pleasant (on his part) / bitter (on her part) goodbye.

Joey's been calling Eddie non-stop and getting no reply. She hasn't seen him since Christmas, and she's trying not to assume the worst.

Jen's in training at CJ's support center, and she's not doing such a great job.

TUESDAY:

Todd's called into a meeting with the producers, who ask him to do reshoots on the film. Todd's furious and offended and refuses, storming out. Poor Dawson's trying to mitigate the disaster, with little luck.

Joey still hasn't heard word from Eddie - but she runs into Hetson's daughter Harley at the bar. Harley's been skipping school, to Joey's displeasure.

Jen's still not doing so hot at counselor training, and she and CJ are at each other's throats.

Jack and David, however, are getting along GREAT, and they go to get tested for STDs together. You know what that means! (Sex is imminent, duh.)

Pacey runs into Emma at the aquarium by his office. It's clear he's there on purpose to see her, but he doesn't find her until his lunch break is nearly over.

WEDNESDAY:

Dawson calls a meeting with the producers behind Todd's back, hoping to argue on Todd's behalf and get him rehired to the movie. Instead, Heather tells Dawson that he should do the reshoots himself. Dawson's wigging at the possibility, and clearly doesn't want to betray Todd.

Joey goes to Hetson after class to tell him about Harley, but Hetson doesn't want to hear it.

Jen and CJ still aren't getting along. Jen's still not doing a great job at training, and CJ's very much micro-managing her. David's stuck there, operating as a buffer.

Pacey and Emma are now meeting at the aquarium on purpose. There's some spark there, heightened by the fact that Pacey clearly hates his job and Emma is inspiring him to break free of it.

THURSDAY:

Joey's still calling Eddie, and starting to get scared. Joey takes Harley with her to Eddie's apartment - and he's cleared it out and taken off without a word to Joey. Gah. She's stunned.

CJ and Jen are, you got it!, still fighting. But maybe they're thawing a tiny bit. And maaaaybe Jen's finally getting a little better at this peer counseling thing.

Jack's sexy summer history comes up with David, and it gets a little awkward. David thinks it's uncool that Jack didn't call some of those guys back, and Jack gets defensive.

Pacey and Emma are back at the aquarium together. She's almost got him convinced to go back to being the Pacey he really is, instead of this gross corporate shill. She dares him to blow off the rest of the day to spend with her, and he agrees, AND she dares him to show up at 1pm tomorrow wearing a Hawaiian shirt instead of his monkey suit. He says he will.

Hey, it's Audrey! She's been hard-core partying in LA with Jack Osbourne, and it's a real bummer. Seriously, driving your car through Gail's house didn't constitute rock bottom, Audrey? But after being sexually harrassed and intimidated at a party, she calls Dawson and he gives her a ride back to Boston.

FRIDAY:

Dawson meets Todd on the beach, and Todd's heard that Heather wants Dawson to do the reshoots. He tells Dawson he should do it - this is Dawson's big opportunity, and he shouldn't give up on it just to spare Todd's feelings. "And listen, the absolute first thing you have to remember to do when you're on set is take a picture of Natasha's face at the exact moment that she's introduced to her new director... 'cause that's something I bloody well have to see." Haha TRUE.

Hetson tells Joey he appreciates her spending so much time with Harley, because Harley's going through some stuff, and offers her $50 a week to keep doing it. Joey bumps him up to $65/a week, but also returns the $50 for hanging out with Harley yesterday. "Is that a girl thing?" he asks obnoxiously, and Joey replies, "No, it's a human being thing." Aww, I like Joey and Harley.

Jen and CJ are finally getting along! And she's doing a good job with her first official counseling call!

Jack and David are both in the clear, STDs-wise. Jack apologizes for the weirdness of the day before, and David laughs, "Like I couldn’t tell from a mile away that you were going to be way sluttier than me." They kiss and I LOVE THEM.

Pacey starts getting a lot of shit from his boss Rich, first for calling in sick the previous day and then for wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Just as Pacey's ready to bail and meet up with Emma, he gets his W2 - and realizes how much money he's been making. He's not ready to say goodbye to the good life just yet, and he flakes on poor Emma, who looks so disappointed.

How many times did I have to drink? 6.

Guess who? Paul Gleason plays one of Todd's producers, Larry Newman. He also plays infamous Breakfast Club principal Richard Vernon!

Rich dad Pacey Witter: I haaaaate his new look.

Pacey Witter's worst shirt: Of course, when he regresses to his Hawaiian shirt days, it's not much better.

Joey Potter's worst hat: But no article of clothing in "Day out of Days" is as bad as Joey's stupid crushed velvet bucket hat.

Audrey's side ponytail: She may be on drugs, but I love her hair.

Best callback: This is a callback to the pilot! Joey's really hung up on the idea of losing one's virginity to a trucker named Bubba, huh?

The truest thing anybody said this week: In the same conversation, Joey scoffs at Harley for talking about sex so cavalierly, and Harley asks, "So what? Just because I'm 15, I'm not even allowed to talk about sex?" Joey gets an "amen" from me with her reply: "No, you can talk about it, and then when you're 19, you can have the unadulterated joy of looking back and realizing what an idiot you sounded like." Lord knows Joey sounded like an idiot when she talked about sex in the pilot!

6.12 "All the Right Moves"

Oh, Audrey. Okay, let's get this over with. She goes back to Boston, heads straight to Hell's Kitchen and gives the most beautiful, tearful apology to her group of friends. They all throw their arms around her and forgive her enthusiastically, and it's so cute and sweet, but totally doesn't last. Audrey begs Emma for another chance to be the lead singer of Hell's Belles, and Emma begrudgingly offers it to her. But before the gig, Audrey gets nervous and then trashed, and totally slurs her way through the gig, then does the world's most pitiful stage dive. The Hell's Belles are PISSED.

Afterward, Emma fires her, and Audrey keeps drinking and goes back to her room and passes out. Later, Joey finds her, and she's unresponsive. Joey calls 911 in the closing minutes of the episode. Gah!!

Other stuff that happened in this episode:

* Joey's clearing out Eddie's locker at work when she finds information on where he might be. She tracks him down at his parents' house, and he pulls the ol' Pacey Witter move when he tells her he's not good enough for her. Later, Harley bails on school again, and goes to Eddie and tells him Joey's pregnant. Hah! So that gets Eddie back to Boston, but he and Joey just fight and he leaves again. Joey gets Hetson to read some short stories Eddie wrote, and Hetson's impressed. He says he'll offer a recommendation that will get Eddie into a prestigious writers' workshop, so she goes to tell Eddie. He's resistant at first, but finally he kisses Joey and tells her he loves her. She says she loves him back and walks away. I'm not sure what that means?

* Rich tells Pacey he's impressed with him and wants to offer him an opportunity, so he takes him to a party to meet this bigwig VIP. Apparently Pacey's supposed to be the new face of this guy's stock or something. It's vague and weird but Pacey's so blinded by opportunity that he doesn't see it. He meets a beautiful, mysterious woman at the party, and after some flirting, she tells him to be careful. "Ask yourself why this has been so easy, or if it’s just a little too good to be true." I wish I could say Pacey was listening.

How many times did I have to drink? 3.

These girls are cuties: I like Emma and Joey's friendship.

The truest thing anybody said this week: When Joey admits to Emma that she's been entertaining sexual fantasies about the new bartender, Emma looks surprised. Joey's response:

Jen's new haircut: I hate it.

The world's worst stage dive: GET IT TOGETHER, AUDREY.

That's it for this week! Readers, I have a question for you: do you miss Dawson? He's barely been in this season. This is the third or fourth episode with no Dawson whatsoever. I dunno, I kinda miss him. But not half as much as I miss Chef Pacey.

Meet us here next Wednesday morning as we cover "Rock Bottom" and "Clean and Sober" - so at least we know the saga of Drunk Audrey is finally at an end!
