Between Two Lockers With Jenny Han

Jenny Han dishes on love triangles, tasty business, and the end of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before series (SOB!).

Between Two Lockers With Jenny Han

As bittersweet as it is to say goodbye to a fave series by a fave, it's fully sweet to have the author stop by the FYA lockers! We're pleased as punch to be joined by Jenny Han for the release of the final To All the Boys I've Loved Before book, Always and Forever, Lara Jean (available now).

The first two books involve quite the love triangles, so what are your favourite love triangles and your allegiance for each in books, TV, and movies?

I know love triangles are divisive but I truly love them because I like the feeling of desperately wanting it both ways.

Books: Katniss/Peeta/Gale
TV: Felicity/Ben/Noel, Buffy/Angel/Spike, Olivia/Jake/Fitz
Movies: Bridget/Mark/Daniel, Sabrina/Linus/David

You've mentioned before that John Ambrose McClaren is the whole reason that you wrote P.S. I Still Love You. So what would you say was your main motivation for writing Always and Forever, Lara Jean?

My main motivation was I missed her! I also thought, how neat to be able to come full circle with Lara Jean. In the first book, she watches her sister leave for college, and now it's her turn.

Now that the series is coming to an end...

What's been your favourite part of this experience?

Writing the sisters.

What's been the most difficult or challenging part?

Figuring out how to end her story.

What will you miss the most?

Just putting this out there: I'd be down for a teenage Kitty spinoff!

We have to know: what's the latest on the potential To All the Boys adaptation?

I have no new news, but I hope to have some news this summer! Fingers crossed.

What's next for you after this? Are you working on your next book yet? (PLEASE SAY YES.)

Sorry -- but no! Haha. I am not even thinking about it until after I finish tour and send Lara Jean off with fanfare. I always have a few things cooking, but who knows? I could be enticed by some shiny new idea and change course.

No matter what you do next, Jenny, you know we'll be there!

If your real life adolescence was a YA book, what would you, the main character, be like?

A lot like Lara Jean.

Who is your secret crush?

My best friend's older brother.

What is your number #1 source of angst?

Algebra 2.

At what point would the reader pump his/her fist in victory?

When I tell off my youth pastor for telling me my skirts are too short for church.

And who would play you in the film adaptation?

An unknown Asian actress who goes on to become Sofia Coppola's muse.

What is your secret power?

I always know what time it is.

What is your #1 favorite food?

Fried shrimp (battered, not breaded), all pasta, Korean fried chicken.

Tell me about your area of expertise.

Baking, shopping, '90s soap opera trivia.

Um, we're going to need to circle back to your '90s soap opera knowledge next time we have you here!

If you could assemble your own Ocean's 11 of fictional characters, who would you pick and why?

Hermione bc duh! Agent Peggy Carter for her brains and winning personality, Buffy for her brawn and her quips. Jen Yu from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon bc she's a badass bitch. Cookie Lyon bc she's one too.

Who needs a full eleven when you've got this fierce five!?

What is your best karaoke song?

"Ms Jackson" by Outkast.

What is your favorite adult beverage?

Fresh concord grape juice and vodka.

What book have you read the most number of times?

The Prince of Tides.

YA authors are so cool. Who would you give a BFF charm to?

I already gave mine to Siobhan Vivian and it's for keeps.

<3 <3 <3!

If you were invited to the FYA slumber party (and obvs, you ARE), what is the most crucial snack food and/or movie/or anything you'd bring?

Nachos with all the fixings, chocolate chip cookie dough (I would bake the cookies there so they would be warm), champagne, and My So-Called Life.

Omg most amazing slumber party EVERRRRRRR.
