Most Anticipated Books Of 2018: Sequels And Follow-Ups

Yesterday, FYA HQ shared the standalones and series starters that we're most looking forward to in the new year. And now, here are our most anticipated sequels and follow-ups of 2018! (Minor spoilers possibly ahead.)

Inkmistress by Audrey Coulthurst (picked by Britt)
Series: Of Fire and Stars, companion novel
Publication Date: 6 March 2018

Why I'm Excited: This prequel to Of Fire and Stars (in which a woman betrothed to a prince falls for the prince’s sister instead) has hooked me with its promises of Animagi, misguided revenge, and more lady love.

More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer (picked by Stephanie)
Series: Letters to the Lost, companion novel
Publication Date: 6 March 2018

Why I'm Excited: “Brigid Kemmerer’s emotional storytelling” is right. More companion book than sequel (since it features a side character from the first book), we’re finally going to get Rev’s story (including why he always wears long sleeves--I’m sure the answer will not be a happy one, but we were teased with it the whole first book). I’m so here for this.

Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi (picked by Rosemary)
Series: Shatter Me, Book4
Publication Date: 6 March 2018

Why I'm Excited: Does this series NEED a continuation? No. Am I gonna read it anyway? HECK YES. Now excuse me while I go pray that Warner is alive and healthy all these many years later.

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (picked by Stephanie)
Series: The Illuminae Files, Book 3
Publication Date: 13 March 2018

Why I'm Excited: I’m not sure I really need to go into depth why I’m SO DANG EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK. If you aren’t squeeing along with us, please go read the first two NOW while you still have time to catch up (and I will be jealous you get to read them for the first time).

(Seconded by Britt, Mandy C., Posh, and Rosemary)

Defy the Worlds by Claudia Gray (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: Constellation, Book 2
Publication Date: 3 April 2018

Why I'm Excited: Gray has quickly become a must-buy author for me, and I adored Defy the Stars. Can’t wait to see where this story takes me.

(Seconded by Stephanie)

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (picked by Britt)
Series: Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, companion novel
Publication Date: 24 April 2018

Why I'm Excited: It’s a sequel to Simon. With a bi protag. SIGN ME UP YESTERDAY.

(Seconded by Mandy W., Rosemary, and Stephanie)

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses, Book 3.5
Publication Date: 1 May 2018

Why I'm Excited: Feyre + Rhysand 4 EVA. <3 <3 <3

(Seconded by Rosemary and Stephanie)

Puddin' by Julie Murphy (picked by Posh)
Series: Dumplin', companion novel
Publication Date: 8 May 2018

Why I'm Excited: This is a companion novel to Dumplin’. So obviously, it’s going to be fabulous.

(Seconded by Stephanie)

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir (picked by Britt)
Series: An Ember in the Ashes, Book 3
Publication Date: 22 May 2018

Why I'm Excited: It’s hard to keep from flailing about returning to the world of assassin boarding school, traitorous besties, and seriously evil mommas. Also, can we put our collective frustration over mid-series cover redesigns on hold when the reason for it is this legit?

(Seconded by Jennie and Posh)

Legendary by Stephanie Garber (picked by Britt)
Series: Caraval, Book 2
Publication Date: 29 May 2018

Why I'm Excited: In Caraval, protag Scarlett goes on a mysterious and magical quest to rescue her little sis, Tessa, who’s been kidnapped by a twisted circus MC as part of the creepiest audience participation game ever. Legendary looks to be just as un-put-down-able, with the added intrigue of continuing the adventure from Tessa’s POV.

(Seconded by Jennie)

Whisper of the Tide by Sarah Tolcser (picked by Stephanie)
Series: Song of the Current, Book 2
Publication Date: 5 June 2018

Why I'm Excited: The first of this series was one I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. Here’s hoping Caro and Markos’ adventures will be even more exciting than the last go-round!

My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: The Lady Janies, Book 2
Publication Date: 26 June 2018

Why I'm Excited: My Lady Jane remains high on the list of funniest and silliest books I’ve ever read. I am so looking forward to seeing what the authors do with Jane Eyre’s (pretty dreary) life.

(Seconded by Britt and Stephanie)

Untitled by Sarah J. Maas (picked by Mandy C.)
Series: Throne of Glass, Book 7
Publication Date: 4 September 2018

Why I'm Excited: Y’all, I’m six books (+ a novella collection) deep into this series. You really think I’m going to stop now?

The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee (picked by Brian)
Series: Guide, Book 2
Publication Date: 2 October 2018

Why I'm Excited: The sequel to the much enjoyed The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, this time from the sister’s point of view.

The Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor (picked by Britt)
Series: Strange the Dreamer, Book 2
Publication Date: 2018

Why I'm Excited: The ending of Strange the Dreamer killed me and the only thing that will bring me back to life is this book. NO, I’M NOT BEING DRAMATIC. WHY DO YOU ASK?

(Seconded by Jennie)

Untitled by Alison Goodman (picked by Stephanie)
Series: Lady Helen, Book 3
Publication Date: 2018

Why I'm Excited: Not knowing when this one will be in my grabby hands is slowly killing me inside. I have high hopes that the finale to this story is a magical one.

Untitled by Marie Lu (picked by Mandy W.)
Series: Warcross, Book 2
Publication Date: 2018

Why I'm Excited: The first book was jaw-droppingly great, so I ABSOLUTELY MUST KNOW how the duology's going to wrap up. Let's get Warcrosser*!

*That's obviously not anything, but Marie Lu's books make me incoherent from A GREAT AND MIGHTY NEED.

So which sequels and follow-ups are you looking forward to in 2018? Let us know in the comments! And don't forget to check out our most anticipated standalones and series starters!
