You know, I think I got through this week (which was a crazy work week) purely based on the fumes from the Austin FYA Book Club holiday party last Sunday. It was such a delight! And not just because there were champagne jello shots. But I mean, those didn’t hurt.
ICYMI on FYA
We posted our fave books of 2024 list! Every year I am amazed that there continue to be this many great reads.
In this week’s Friday Night Lights Rewatch, there’s a book club and a booze cruise! (Unfortunately, not at the same time.)
In book reviews:
- Stephanie escapes into the cozy world of Julie Leong’s The Teller of Small Fortunes (a 2025 FYA Book Club pick!).
- Mandy C. reviews The Nightmare Before Kissmass by Sara Raasch, which is apparently “Red, White & Royal Blue, but make it Christmas (and Halloween).”
Book-Related Things
Not that we’ll need MORE nightmares in 2025 but here’s a list of horror book releases coming next year.
Reactor’s best books of 2024 list, and a look back at their favorite bookish essays from the year.
Five contemporary adaptations of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Onscreen Things
Great Deadline piece on how TV creators and development execs are appealing to Gen Z.
Paul Mescal absolutely slayed on SNL, and yes I would watch the Gladiator II musical:
The Friday Night Lights reboot (have you checked out our Rewatch Project?!!) has landed at Peacock.
Whether or not you’ve seen Hot Frosty (our review here; thank you for your sacrifice, Stephanie), I think you will definitely appreciate this Pitch Meeting. (And don’t let the weird eyes in the preview image turn you off, it’s just a dumb thing he does.)
Taylor Zakhar Perez honored Nicholas Galitzine for EW’s 2024 Entertainers of the Year.
A Warhammer 40,000 TV series with Henry Cavill is in development, and while I don’t know what that is, I do know who Henry Cavill is and am therefore totally in.
Social Media Things
I mean yes, I would watch this:
Everyone has struggles:
Totally here for any and all Charlie Swan tattoos but like this one in particular is a MASTERPIECE:
This is indeed the crossover that everyone (i.e. Mandy C. and Stephanie) needs:
This one’s for the Love Actually haters, a.k.a. not me:
You know we love The Lean!!
