News reporter Kate is all about breaking the rules to get the best shot as she traipses around New York, cameraman in tow, reporting on hard-hitting news like warehouse fires. When her recklessness gets her relegated to a fluff piece, Kate is sure this is going to be the lamest segment of her life.
But then the story kind of touches her heart: a Good Samaritan, nicknamed Good Sam so the movie title could be cutesy, left a bag full of $100,000 dollars on someone’s doorstep. Then the next day, a second bag shows up on a completely unrelated doorstep, and then another, and another! Kate has a gut-feeling this feel-good story is going to go viral—especially if she can unmask Good Sam.
Familiar Faces:
Hey, it’s the real Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place! I think that’s all I know her from. Tiya is just, like, SO pretty. Tiya plays Kate, your typical reporter who is all about hunting down the story to the detriment of everything else in her life. Her dad is a senator who wants her to date one of his constituents, but Kate has a “no people in government” dating rule.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Chad in anything I remember, but his IMDB list is quite varied with plenty of guest spots on many shows we at FYA are interested in and even some Hallmark Christmas movies. Here he plays a fireman who has to rescue Kate from a burning building she’s reporting on, and…then things happen…
Marco and Chad must be friends because they’ve been in at least 3 of the same projects together. Yay for buddies! Fun fact: His IMDB pictures are way hotter than the bland politician suits he wears for this movie suggest. Jack is a donor Kate’s dad wants to hook her up with, despite her no dating rule, and then he becomes part of a luuurv triangle.
Couch-Sharing Capability: Low
I’d never put this type of movie on to specifically watch with someone. (Unless you’re like, my mom, then yeah, she’d be fine with it.) But generally? I’d rather watch this alone than get residual guilt for making someone else bask in the mediocrity with me.
Recommended Level of Inebriation: Spike It
So there’s plenty of scenes that take place around a newsroom, at all hours of the day. I’m sure that office coffee pot is always going. I think this is the perfect time to spike your cup o’ joe with a little somethin’ somethin’ to get you through the day or night you’re spending on the couch working on whatever project you’re dealing with that caused you to turn this movie on in a fit of “well, I guess this is fine.”
Use of Your Streaming Subscription: Passable
I don’t have cable that I don’t steal from my parents so I have to intentionally go to an app to find a random movie when I want something on that I don’t need to pay much attention to (I’m not the best multi-tasker when it comes to entertainment). And that’s exactly where this movie belongs: in the background.
