Fix: All Animals, No Humans, Found Family
Platforms: Crave, Max
Crave Summary:
Cat is a solitary animal, but as his home is devastated by a great flood, he finds refuge on a boat populated by various species.
FYA Summary:
I went into this movie basically knowing that (1) there’s a cat, and (2) there’s no dialogue. Which was especially amusing when Crave made me choose a language option and claimed that the original is in French. (Probably because it’s a French and Belgian co-production, as well as Latvian, and it might have been impossible to choose no language.)
Anyway, you really don’t need to know much more than that. This is one of those films that’s better to experience for yourself.
Familiar Faces:
The only humans involved with this film are the ones who recently won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature! Director/producer/co-writer Gints Zilbalodis was even named Rigan of the Year in 2024 because of this film.
Couch-Sharing Capability: High
Between the gorgeous animation and the lack of dialogue, this is definitely not a second-screen watch. But it’s perfect for chatting, since you won’t miss any lines. It’s only 84 minutes long, so it’s fairly child-friendly as well, although maybe use Charlotte’s Web as a measuring stick. (This is not as much of a bummer, but requires a similar maturity level.)
Recommended Level of Inebriation: Medium
This film is full of stressful situations in which you’ll be DEEPLY!!! INVESTED!!!!! Self-soothe as necessary.
Use of Your Streaming Subscription: Good
It’s always a pleasant surprise when something lives up to the hype! Especially when it’s an original 2D-animated film, which is practically a lost art form in a media landscape dominated by IP-obsessed mega studios.
