Familiar Faces:

Steve Martin in Only Murders in the Building

Steve Martin as Charles Haden-Savage

The podcast has rejuvenated interest in his acting career, and he’s set to star in a reboot of Brazos, the detective show that made him famous. Unfortunately, Charles may be going to prison, so the producers cast him as a wheelchair-bound, dementia-ridden old man, in case they have to kill off the character.

Martin Short in Only Murders in the Building

Martin Short as Oliver Putman

His star once again on the rise, Oliver relives the glory days of the 1970s, including the Son of Sam murders. And perhaps reconnects with his distant son.

Selena Gomez in Only Murders in the Building

Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora

Discovered hanging over Bunny’s stabbed corpse with a knitting needle in her hand, Mabel is the chief suspect in the murder. And that kind of causes her painting career to take off. And maybe leads to a new romance…

Nathan Lane in Only Murders in the Building

Nathan Lane as Teddy Dimas

Oliver sent restaurateur and mobster Teddy and his son sent to prison for an old murder. Now out on bail, Teddy has a score to settle with Oliver. But perhaps Oliver has an old score to settle with Teddy as well. Something almost as unforgivable as murder.

James Caverly in Only Murders in the Building

James Caverly as Theo Dimas

Teddy’s deaf son. You’d think he’d be angry with Mabel (and vice versa) after the events of last season, but the pair form kind of a bond, searching for Bunny’s murderer.

Tina Fey in Only Murders in the Building

Tina Fey as Cinda Canning

Cinda is all over this new murder…and is ready to accuse any and all of the trio of the crime.

Adina Verson in Only Murders in the Building

Adina Verson as Poppy White, Cinda’s unappreciated assistant

Amy Ryan in Only Murders in the Building

Amy Ryan as Jan

After attempting to murder Charles (and everyone else in the Arconia), Jan is cooling her heels in prison. Charles naively assumed that meant they were broken up, but Jan still wants to make things work.

Ryan Broussard in Only Murders in the Building

Ryan Broussard as Will Putman, Oliver’s son

Oliver and Will are finally starting to reconnect…unless a family secret tears them apart.

Jane Houdyshell in Only Murders in the Building

Jane Houdyshell as Bunny Folger, the ex-president of the Arconia board

A heartless witch in Season 1, flashbacks show she was a lonely woman who truly cared about the building and its residents. So…who killed her?

Christine Ko in Only Murders in the Building

Christine Ko as Nina Lin, the new board president

She has big new plans for the Arconia. But how far was she willing to go to be in charge?

Cara Delevingne as Alice Banks

An English gallery owner who takes an interest in Mabel, both professionally…and personally.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph in Only Murders

Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Williams

On maternity leave for most of the investigation, the detective returns to help the hapless trio stay out of jail.

Michael Rapaport in Only Murders in the Building

Michael Rapaport as Detective Kreps

This guy was born to play a jerk cop.

Zoe Colletti in Only Murders in the Building

Zoe Colletti as Lucy

Eight years ago, Charles’s almost-fiancee dumped him, taking away his almost stepdaughter, Lucy. Well Lucy never stopped liking Charles and would like to form a relationship with the only father figure in her life. Plus, she may know more about the goings on at the Arconia than anyone else.

Amy Schumer in Only Murders in the Building

Amy Schumer as herself

Couch Sharing Capability: Favorite Podcast

Another cozy mystery with lots of laughs. Good for annoying your family with ‘When are we going to watch the next one? Huh? Huh? Huh?’ Sorry, Sandy and Sophie.

Recommended Level of Inebriation: Cocktail Party

Okay, my first four theories were wrong. This one really kept me guessing. The chemistry is still there, and this was not just a rehash of the last season. A lot of unlikable characters from Season 1 grew on me. Lucy was a good addition. The older guys try to get Mabel to relate to her because of her youth, only for her to be blindsided by a stream of zenial slang. Goofy Oliver grows as a character, as he tries to repair his relationship with his son. And the librarian meet cute between Howard and a new neighbor was adorable.

So who did Lucy see the night of the first murder? Why did Bunny mumble ‘Savage’ as she died? What is Nina planning for the Arconia? Why did Bunny have a naked painting of Charles’s father? Can Will pull off an elementary school production of The Wizard of Oz? And what was with that weird last episode?

Brian wrote his first YA novel when he was down and out in Mexico. He now lives in Missouri with his wonderful wife and daughter. He divides his time between writing and working as a school librarian. Brian still misses the preachy YA books of the eighties.
