Fix: Holiday Romance, Opposites Attract, Christmas ball, Picturesque Snow, Cozy Jammies
Platforms: Amazon Prime; also periodically re-airing on Lifetime
Amazon Summary:
Jenna Hudson and Kevin Jenner are polar opposites, working for the same online publication in New York City.
FYA Summary:
Strait-laced neat freak Jenna, and charming chaotic bro Kevin, are vying for the same position at the online travel magazine they work for when they’re assigned to write up the same Aspen holiday vacation piece. A snowstorm forces their plane to land in the middle of nowhere, which happens to be called Santa Claus, Indiana. The two are forced to stay at a Christmas-themed inn and end up drawn into the effort to save the historic place from closure. Will the magic of Christmas end up bringing these two crazy kids together? Spoilery: But who would even want to see the movie where it doesn’t?
Familiar Faces:
Bethany Joy Lenz as Jenna Hudson
Jenna is uptight and orderly and also sympathetic and Bethany Joy Lenz is so great at this kind of character. Lenz is best known for being one half of a One Tree Hill supercouple (shoutout to my fellow Naley fans!), but she’s appeared in a ton of other successful shows, and several holiday TV movies.
Andrew Walker as Kevin Jenner
Kevin is impulsive and fun, yet also kind of obnoxious, but in that way that hot guys get away with. Walker is the go-to holiday movie leading man, having starred in at least 20 cable TV romances.
Tasha Smith as Simone Jenkins
Tasha is the editor of the online travel publication that Jenna and Kevin work for and is fairly friendly for a boss who has pitted two of her writers against each other at Christmas time. Smith has appeared in a slew of TV shows, including Power and Empire and can currently be seen in Dolemite Is My Name.
Couch-Sharing Capability: Super Cozy
Cuddle under a blanket with your special someone, pop open a bottle of wine with your besties, or invite the whole family to join. (Cable TV holiday movies are strictly G-rated.) But under no circumstances should you watch it with someone who will make fun of you when you cry. Those people are monsters.
Recommended Level of Inebriation: Jolly
For me, Christmas movies represent that time at the end of the year when most of my shows have gone on hiatus and I’ve either finished all my holiday shopping or just given up on it, and I’ve abandoned all other responsibilities. I highly recommend it. So, put on your fuzziest socks, spike that hot cocoa, kick back and relax. Plus, it’s cold outside! Whiskey helps.
Use of Your Streaming Subscription: Festive AF
A Christmas inn! Real snow! Santa! A biracial family! Snowed Inn Christmas has a lot going for it. I know there’s no end to the number of Christmas movies you could watch this season, if that’s your jam, but this one is actually pretty good. (I mean, it’s no Hot Ghost Christmas, but what is?) I really did find myself rooting for these two to find their Christmas magic. I mean, just look at these adorable dummies.
So, if you’re looking for something romantic and hopeful to unwind with this holiday season (or to avoid your responsibilities entirely), go ahead and sit back, and toss an extra shot in your cocoa for me!
