Fix: Lee Pace As A Sexy And Adorable Pianist, 1930s Everything, Age Appropriate Love Stories
Guinevere Pettigrew lands a job as the assistant of an aspiring American actress and gets swept up in a dizzying world of glamour and high society.
Guinevere Pettigrew is down on her luck – turns out that her high standards of behavior don’t mesh well with being a nanny. After being dropped from the employment agency, she steals a card and shows up to Miss Delysia Lafosse’s flat, thinking the breezy American actress needs a nanny. Instead, Delysia takes her on a wild, 24-hour adventure through London with her three (!) boyfriends and upper class social circle.
Frances McDormand as Guinevere Pettigrew
Hey, another Frances McDormand Stream It for me!
Amy Adams as Delysia Lafosse
This is the one role in which I find Amy Adams utterly charming instead of annoying. Delysia’s love life is an inspiration to us all, and reminds me of when I was dating and wished I could take the traits of each boyfriend I liked and join them together into the perfect dude.
Lee Pace as Michael
Like we wouldn’t watch him in anything. He plays an especially swoonworthy character here, so get ready to wonder when your tall, gorgeous, tuxedo-clad piano player will whisk you away.
Ciarán Hinds as Joe
If you’ve seen Rome, all I have to say is Hail Caesar!
Shirley Henderson as Edythe
Yes, that’s Moaning Myrtle.
Couch-Sharing Capability: High
This is one of my favorite movies. It’s so charming and frothy, but also manages to have depth. (Or maybe that’s just Lee Pace’s soulful expressions…sigh.) If Delysia’s complicated love life doesn’t draw you in, the gorgeous architecture, costumes, and glam 1930s styling certainly will. Watching Guinevere’s austere demeanor loosen up into bemused wit and wisdom is delightful – she has Delysia’s suitors eating out of her hand without even trying. When she attracts someone of her own, their chemistry sizzles. It’s the perfect movie for watching with your girlfriends, although I dare say your male counterparts would enjoy it too.
Recommended Level of Inebriation: Fancy Cocktail Time
Since the movie is fun and clever, you won’t want to be too smashed – but since champagne and cocktails flow throughout the movie, it’s only fair that you should partake as well. Bonus points if you have elegant silk dressing gowns like Delysia.

If I haven’t convinced you by now, I fear you may be beyond my powers of persuasion…although I think I’m about to make a pretty convincing closing argument.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I ask that you only look at the evidence before you, and return the only verdict justice supports: a verdict of “I’m going to watch this right now.”
