For this Fourth of July, I hope that everyone, American or non-American, is celebrating Steve Rogers’ birthday as they rightfully should. Possibly with a drink by a pool, but that’s for you to decide. It’s what Captain America deserves.
ICYMI on FYA
This month’s FYA book club selection is As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh, which needs to be next on my TBR now that we’re into July.
Mandy W. covers Friday Night Lights 4.02 and a lot of mailbox drama in this week’s installment of our rewatch project.
Mandy W. also discusses the brilliance that is Challengers in this week’s Stream It, as is only right during this exciting first week of Wimbledon.
In book reviews, Sarah demonstrates why As Long as the Lemon Tree Grows is this month’s book club pick. (PS: that link is, in fact, different than the one above.)
Book-Related Things
Libby is here for us with some great beach read recs!
If you’re more the type to read your summer reads indoors, there’s a list for that, too.
And if you would rather read about murder than romance, this is the list for you (and me).
Onscreen Things
If you’re looking for the best Fourth of July TV episodes to watch this weekend, look no further than this list.
To the great sadness (but not necessarily surprise) of Mandy W. and me, Doctor Odyssey is not returning for a second season, boooo.
Jennette McCurdy is adapting her memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died and will be a co-showrunner! Jennifer Aniston is set to lead, so that’s also great.
Speaking of showrunners, the Fourth Wing adaptation has a new one attached to the project.
Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy are starring in the movie adaptation of Sarah Hogle’s You Deserve Each Other, and please, take my money, I will give it to you for this.
I don’t think this has been announced one way or the other, but I need to know if Stanley Tucci is in (he should be, right?) and if Simon Baker is in (they could make that work).
We have a People We Meet on Vacation release date!
There is a part of my brain that rejects Cole Sprouse as someone old enough to play a married movie character, but that is not remotely the point of this movie trailer.
Social Media Things
This thread on who in Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have watched BtVS feels accurate.
An important question about werewolf feet has been raised, what is your vote? (I vote yes.)
I don’t think Jacob Black tried this move, but it definitely worked for Taylor Lautner.
We all need some silliness, and this is delightfully silly.
