Title: The Vampire Diaries S5.E15 “Gone Girl”
Released: 2014

Previously: Katherine tries her damnedest to seduce Stefan, Tyler bites Nadia, Matt and Nadia CANOODLE, Stefan and Katherine rescue Damon the Vampire Killer, and Stefan and Caroline finally figure out that Katherine is captaining the SS Elena.

WELL. Last week’s episode certainly gave us quite a bit to look forward to: Nadia dying and The Gang trying to free Elena from Katherine’s possession for starters! (BONUS SPOILER – a certain smug asshole professor FINALLY gets iced!)

Things aren’t looking good for Nadia. Sure, Klaus could heal her but Katherine isn’t trying to find the Original vampire who hates her the most. She figures she can enlist the SUPER TRUSTWORTHY Nefarious Professor SnugJumper to help her find a cure. The depth of her denial? It knows no bounds.

Nadia is having fever dreams of the hundreds of years she traveled all over Europe trying to find her mother.  And finally it’s a threesome with Rebekah and Matty Blue-Eyes that leads her to Katherine. Kind of nice how that AWESOME SIDEPLOT came to a nice, neat circle. Nadia notes that Matt must really have a lot of trust in Rebekah to be travelling with her and not be on vervane. Will we see more of Rebekah and Matt? WILL THEY DOUBLE DATE WITH KLAUS AND CAROLINE?

*small cough*

Apologies, I seem to have gotten off track there.

Stefan and Caroline are in the Salvatore Dungeo-torium telling chained-up Damon that they’ve figured out Katherine’s scheme and he gives her props. Love her, hate her, you can’t help but admire her. Everyone now knows, including the vacationing Bonnie and Jeremy patched in on conference call. They are calling Katherine and trying to give her (Elena) a reason to come back to the house, but she’s holed up with Nadia, waiting for the cure from Wes. Katherine Pierce can smell a rat miles away and she figures out that THEY KNOW. And then THEY KNOW THAT SHE KNOWS. AWWW SHIT.

SHADE.

Bonnie and Jeremy trackdown that catering witch – who is called Liv, apparently – and get her to do a locator spell. I cackle a bit because she isn’t even trying to hide that she’s macking on Jeremy and Bonnie is super pissed. But not pissed enough to call her out or SNATCH HER WIG.

Katherine has hidden Nadia in a church and promises her that as soon as she’s better that the two of them are getting the eff outta Dodge. She goes to find Wes but finds him DEAD because Damon has managed to escape his chains by winding up dumbass Tyler to the point that he went into Damon’s cell, so of course Damon fed off of him and busted out of that joint. It’s kind of glorious how Damon kills Wes; he has a bit of revenge by tortureing him before letting him die from a heart removal. So Katherine realizes that a cure doesn’t exist and because she’s too selfish to save her daughter (by pleading with Klaus) her daughter is probably now going to die. Stefan phones her, tells her the jig is up, they ALL KNOW she’s not Elena and that she can either leave town or come and say goodbye to her dying daughter, who is now at Chez Salvatore.

Sidenote: at this point everyone is at the Salvatore House so why doesn’t Caroline patch a call through to Klaus? I KNOW Tyler has beef with him and Katherine’s terrified of him but saving Nadia could have been their ace up the sleeve with making sure that Katherine didn’t leave town.

Now for the weepy part of our program. Nadia is clearly dying and Matt sits with her, tucking a blanket around her and holding her hand. She thinks he’s Gregor and apologizes for what she did to him in order to find her mother. Matt puts on a Czech accent and tells Nadia that he forgives her. OH MATTY!

Bonnie sits with Nadia and tells her that she’s going to help her pass to the Other Side and that she won’t be in any pain. And that’s when Katherine shows up. I guess she has it in her to do 1-5 selfless things a millennia. Nadia recognizes her but then starts to hallucinate, thinking she’s back in Europe, trying to find her for hundreds of years.

“My mother’s name is Katherine, I am looking for her. She is a liar. And a murderer. She manipulates. She betrays. She’ll do anything to survive.”

Katherine creates a false memory for Nadia, giving her a scene of the childhood she so desperately wanted, right before she dies. Nadia passes through Bonnie. Katherine, being Katherine, tries to run but Damon is at the door. Snarky goodbyes are said all round and Katherine ends with Stefan, telling him that she loves him. AND HE STABS HER WITH THE MAGIC KNIFE. Her spirit leaves Elena.

The Softer Side of Damon Salvatore.

Caroline is outside with Tyler feeling a bit sad in her feels about Katherine and finally gets to tell Tyler (who did actually kill Nadia and no one even said a WORD) that he needs to get over her and Klaus. I APPLAUD. LOUDLY.

Stefan and Damon wait for Elena to wake up. Damon knows he has to tell Elena all that he did because he doesn’t want to keep running. He doesn’t want to be another Katherine.

Bonnie is at the church lighting candles for her Dad, when the spirit of Katherine finally shows up. (Why did it take so long? Hmm.) She starts in on one of her rants about how she’s tired of Elena getting everything that SHE wants (honestly, you’re a broken record at this point) and then we see a flashback to Wes’ lab and Katherine injecting herself with some kind of serum. Ok…? Katherine tries to pass through Bonnie and can’t and then apparently the Four Winds pick her up and drag her out of the church.

This bitch will never die.

Moments of Hilarity:

“We need you to find his sister.” – Bonnie
“Why, did she run away from home?” – Liv
“No, she’s being possessed by her evil doppelganger.” – Jeremy

Moments of Heart-Swelling:

“You came back for me.” – Nadia to Katherine

“Let me show you what your life should have been…Your mother loves you.” – Katherine to Nadia

“I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be loved by you.” – Katherine to Stefan
