Previously: Our gang managed to capture Sybil using Ye Olde Mystical Tuning Fork, Bonnie is trying to bring back Enzo, Damon switched off his humanity and also killed Tyler Lockwood.
What Went Down
Alaric and Stefan have Sybil safely secured at the Armory and are pumping her for info with a little help from Ye Olde Mystical Tuning Fork. Sybil gladly tells Stefan her backstory; she was cast out of her village because of her psychic abilities and banished to an island with only one inhabitant: another girl with similar abilities. They become close, like sisters, and when their food supply runs short Big Sis suggests calling out to nearby ships to ask for help. The ships never make it due to unseen rocks, but their “rations” wash ashore. When I say “rations” I mean their dead bodies which Big Sis feeds Little Sis, not telling her that she’s eating dead people. I mean, we’ve all been there, right?
Meanwhile Alaric is shut in the cave by Georgie. So Georgie’s the other siren, right? WRONG. She’s being compelled by SELINE. The nanny is the other siren! Alaric leaves a video on his phone for Caroline telling her that Georgie is the other siren (oops), and proceeds to pierce his ear drum to get out of the cave. I mean, that is committment right there. Sybil rejects Seline’s offer of help via Georgie, and all Georgie gets in return is her neck snapped and her soul sucked straight to hell. Harsh.
Sybil compels Stefan to forget that Seline is the other siren. She’s more interested in messing with his head, asking him which sibling he is – the victim or the monster? He answers that he’s both. Sybil commends his loyalty to Damon but is convinced that after tasting just the smallest bit of hell that Damon will do everything to avoid it, even if that means selling out his own brother. Looks like Stefan is going to need to deal with the devil, the devil being a man called Cade who was burned at the stake by his village for his psychic abilities, and who also gave Sybil and Seline their siren “gifts”. I mean, if you’re going to go out big on your last season then the devil is the obvious choice as your Big Bad, I get it.
And Damon! Damon is still struggling against Sybil even though she’s caged up, and he’s looking for something, something that just so happens to belong to Pete Maxwell, aka Matt Donovan’s dad. Matt saves Pete from Damon’s wrath and then has to have the awkward conversation of Supernatural Beings are Real and Live Among Us: Don’t Forget To Drink Your Vervane. Matt threatens to kill Damon if he finds Tyler dead and Damon gladly gives him Tyler’s current location in order to buy himself some time to get away. Tyler IS dead, of course, and as always Matt Donovan doesn’t cry alone in my presence.
Holy CRAP
- Cannibal entrapment. I think that’s worse than turning your sibling into a vampire.
- Can we get Sam and Dean Winchester on the scene to help the Salvatores navigate LITERAL hell?
- Sybil is the Good Sister. Who would’ve known? (I use the term “good” loosely here.)
- When Caroline figures out that her nanny is a siren? I wouldn’t want to be there for all the whiskey in Ireland.
Vamp What Even Is He At This Point? of the Week: Alaric Salzman
One day you’ll meet a nice girl who isn’t doomed/isn’t in love with someone else/doesn’t want to be a vampire/isn’t an evil immortal, Alaric. But until then, keep using those Indiana Jones skills to literally crawl your way out of The Cave of Wonders and through the sewers to freedom! +10 for piercing your own ear drum in order to escape. BOSS MOVE.
Hero Hair/Nefarious Grin
Hero Hair: Is it just me or is Matt’s hair looking even more heroic this season? He manages to save his deadbeat dad from Damon, but he was too late to save Tyler. Now I feel bad for hating Tyler, you guys.
Nefarious Grin: SO TRICKSY.
Sound Bites
Sybil: Are you an island girl, or a village girl? Wait! Answer me, Stefan, this is important. Who are you in the story? Are you the victim, who tried for years not to feed on human blood, only for his selfish brother to blow into town and ruin it all? Or are you the monster who sealed his brother’s fate the day you forced him to turn into a vampire, only to doom him to an eternity of misery because you were afraid of being alone.
Sybil: Answer me. Who are you?
Stefan: I’m both.
Stefan: An all-powerful Siren, imprisoned by a fork.
Sybil: Says the man who can be killed with a stick.
Burning Questions
Do we think that Seline wants Lizzie and Josie for her own nefarious means?
Wasn’t it Virginia that stabbed Seline in the first episode this season? So I guess she knew about her siren-ness? Or was that just a coincidence?
On a scale of 1-10 how likely is Stefan to make a deal with the devil to save Damon? And how annoyed will Caroline be?
What was the family heirloom that Damon found for Sybil, and what is its purpose?? Does this mean that the Donovans are somehow…related to the sirens?
DANG. Twist and double twist! I’m not even sure where we go from here tbh. Come help me sort out my head in the comments!
